Who knew that things would be this way! We plan or sometimes we don’t. Either way, life still happens, most times without much say from us. We are not in control. God is! Yes, we are fully aware of this.
Now, if you are not aware of this fact, keep living, and as you go through different tests and trials meant to draw you closer to God, you will begin to see who is really in control. We often struggle with this. We orchestrate and manipulate things to align them to our will and desires. But guess what? God’s will, will prevail, whether we cooperate or not.
The answer, the key, the “what now” that we are seeking, is to do just that, COOPERATE WITH GOD!
What does that mean?
That is definitely easier said than done. Because of sin and our fallen nature, we are in a constant battle with the enemy, satan, but also with ourselves. We trust God. We know that He is faithful and that He will never leave us nor forsake us. Yet, we still struggle. We are anxious and we often worry our way through the day. Life can bring about some challenging situations and we simply want it all resolved immediately. I am a true believer of God’s miraculous power and His ability to do things suddenly, in an instant, if He so desires and works to make things happen that way in our lives. However, often, he chooses to make us wait so that His greater purpose will be manifested in our lives. This waiting period produces the struggle between our will and God’s; between our timing and God’s. It can even produce a wavering in our overall trust in God.
Like at this very moment, and basically through out this entire day, this feeling that I have carried around with me in the pit of my stomach has been overwhelming and almost unbearable. The moving, out of control, pieces of my life have exhausted me. I know God is in control. I know He is there carrying me through. I know my wilderness experience is coming to an end and that my promised land is right over the horizon. I know he has good intentions for my life and that if I continue to wait and continue to focus on Him, He is going to further reveal to me that plan and I will start to see all of the pieces fit together.
Nevertheless, I find myself seemingly not cooperating with God, and I cannot seem to truly shake this feeling that I carry with me when something is troubling me; when my trust is wavering. It’s a constant reminder that true peace, the peace that God offers to me, is eluding me. That is not how God intended for things to be.
Philippians 4:7 New Living Translation (NLT) says:
7 Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus.
The struggles of this world have almost zapped the life from us; however, we cannot give up or give in to these feelings of distress.
It’s time for change!
Proverbs 3:5-6 New Living Translation (NLT) says:
5 Trust in the Lord with all your heart;
do not depend on your own understanding.
6 Seek his will in all you do,
and he will show you which path to take.
So once again, how do we cooperate with God? The above verses tell us how we go about making that change, how we truly begin to cooperate with God. We say we trust in the Lord, but do we do it with ALL of our heart? Do we cooperate with God and release our own understanding? Are we seeking His will in ALL that we do? Are we allowing Him to show us which path to take?
The reality is that things do not happen how we want them to or in the timing that we have set in our minds. The struggle for me and possibly the struggle for you is in wanting what we want right now and wanting to circumvent the process. This often occurs when the process is taking much longer than we anticipated. God has shown us the other side, our hearts desires, but then he says wait. He has a greater purpose than just making us happy and giving us what we want. Yes, He can and most likely will provide moments of happiness and even give us what we want, but not until we cooperate with Him so that He can accomplish in and through us what He wills, for His glory. Everything God does is for His glory. As He works through us and through our lives, the ultimate goal is for God’s glory to be revealed.
As I sit here and take a deep breath and release to God what I have been carrying all day long, it is my prayer that you too will give it to Jesus. We are wasting so much energy carrying these things. We are in a battle. That is no doubt. And it is not a normal battle.
Ephesians 6:12 New Living Translation (NLT) says:
12 For we are not fighting against flesh-and-blood enemies, but against evil rulers and authorities of the unseen world, against mighty powers in this dark world, and against evil spirits in the heavenly places.
It is satan’s plan and goal to get us so frustrated with God that we give up. But instead of giving up, we must cooperate with God. We must read the Word of God and pray and fight this battle with the strength of the Lord. We may need to take that deep breath, and say,
“God, all day long I have been wrestling with the cares of this life, but I am choosing to give them back to you right now. What now? Right now. Forgive me for trying to do it on my own. Forgive me for not cooperating with this moment of growth in my life and for not seeing you in it. God, you are in control of all things. That situation that has been weighing heavy on me this day, God I ask you to lift the burden as I hand it back to you. Work your will and your purpose in that thing right now. For I am not wrestling with that situation or that person but with the evil rulers and authorities of the unseen world, against mighty powers in this dark world, and against evil spirits in the heavenly places. Within my own strength, God I can do nothing, but with you, I can do all things because you give me the strength. God give me peace and rest this night and guidance and direction for tomorrow. You are faithful and I will cooperate with you. In Jesus’ name. Amen.”
Life is full of ups and downs and these days, those fluctuations seem to be coming at a steadier rate. However, we must choose to change our method of dealing with them. We must flow with the tide and remember in all things, God is with us. God is for us. He is working all things for good because we love Him and are called according to His purpose. “His Purpose”, not our own. So, when it gets hard and on days like today when things seem to have gotten the best of us, stop, take a deep breath, give it back to God and choose to get back in line with His plan. He is going to give us the strength to keep moving forward and give us that peace that goes beyond anything we can understand. He’s got this. We really can trust Him!
