It’s your first day in your new position. Orientation has just begun. You are so worried about doing a great job and living up to your employers’ expectations that you’re not fully focused on this part. Your immediate goal is to impress everyone and really show them what you have to offer.
First stop, the Human Resources department. The HR representative is moving pretty fast. You hear words, but you aren’t really as attentive as you should be. You are not quite catching all of the benefits available to you. “Sign here please. Sign there. Here’s your copy.”
You make a mental note to read it all later; but for now, you’re ready to jump right in to the work of it all; what you feel is most critical.
I have exciting news for you! When we accepted the offer of salvation that was made to us, we became recipients of a “Heavenly” benefits package. However, it’s not our “works” that allow us to receive them, but God’s great love for us simply because we believe.
It may not be our first day in our new position in Christ, but guess what, we will never forget or misplace the benefits that are available to us. We have God’s Word (the Bible) as our handbook to review these rewards and blessings on a daily basis. We aren’t placed here to impress God or to show Him what we have to offer. We, His children, are the intended recipients of all of Christ’s work on the cross; his death, burial, and resurrection. We get to sit back and enjoy all of the benefits upon belief in Him. Once you have received Him as your personal savior and are ready to walk this life with Him as your guide, your benefits package is initiated, and your name is logged as a beneficiary.
Romans 8:17 (NLT) says,
And since we are his children, we are his heirs. In fact, together with Christ we are heirs of God’s glory. But if we are to share his glory, we must also share his suffering.
When we said Yes Lord, we received a benefits plan filled with exciting, reliable, and unique advantages to meet our everyday needs.
Let’s review our plan received on our first day with Christ.

Let’s take a closer look at our Freedom through Jesus Christ
Ephesians 2:4-6 NLT says,
4 But God is so rich in mercy, and he loved us so much, 5 that even though we were dead because of our sins, he gave us life when he raised Christ from the dead. (It is only by God’s grace that you have been saved!) 6 For he raised us from the dead along with Christ and seated us with him in the heavenly realms because we are united with Christ Jesus.
Talk about benefits! That one passage of Scripture explains so much that we have been given. First, God’s love and His mercy is beyond anything we could ever find on our own. We search for this type of love and look for it in all of the wrong places. We fight with all of our might to get what we think we deserve; but here is God, our Heavenly Father saying, “Here, I’ve got all that You need. You don’t have to fight. You just have to believe in what I’ve done for You, in the way that I have prepared for You through my beloved Son, Jesus the Christ.”
We were dead because of our sins but God gave us life when he raised Christ from the dead. No matter how hard we try to work for it, it is only by God’s grace that we have been saved. You see, what He did in and through Christ, He chose to include us because of His love. He raised us from the dead along with Christ and seated us with Him in heavenly realms because we are united with Christ Jesus.
Wow! That is something worth saying Yes to!
Where do I sign up? What do I have to do?
Titus 3:5 (NLT) says,
he saved us, not because of the righteous things we had done, but because of his mercy. He washed away our sins, giving us a new birth and new life through the Holy Spirit.
It’s as simple as that. We don’t have to jump through any hoops. There is nothing that we can “do” in and of ourselves to make this happen. We just have to believe in what God has already done and receive it and walk in it. We are to pick up our benefits manual, the Word of God, and move forward in total obedience along the path He has so graciously laid before us.
It may sound hard; overwhelming, maybe. “How do I live up to these expectations? How do I repay God for what He has done in my life?” We simply follow His blueprint, one day at a time. If we make a mistake, God isn’t going to fire us. We simply come to Him with a heart of repentance and allow Him to further draw us closer to Him.
1 Peter 1:3-4 (NLT) says,
3 All praise to God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. It is by his great mercy that we have been born again, because God raised Jesus Christ from the dead. Now we live with great expectation, 4 and we have a priceless inheritance—an inheritance that is kept in heaven for you, pure and undefiled, beyond the reach of change and decay.
We get to live each and every day with great expectation of what has been offered to us on day one with Christ. We have a priceless inheritance. It is kept in a safe place awaiting our arrival one day. You see, this inheritance that is kept in heaven for you and for me is pure and undefiled, beyond the reach of change and decay.
As we walk our daily journey with the Lord, we can be confident in His promises toward us. We are His children. He chose us, not because of anything we could ever do, but because of His love and grace and mercy.
Who wouldn’t want to be a part of this plan?
The Heavenly Benefits Package is more than we could ever imagine. Not only do we receive advance benefits right here on earth, but there is so much more to come. Yes, as Christ suffered, we too must suffer as we grow in Him. But it’s all worth it and no one can take these benefits away.
There’s no turning back if we want all that is waiting for us. We have been called to live in freedom. But God’s Word tells us that we are not to use our freedom to satisfy our sinful nature. All that we do on this earth should be to glorify God.
Galatians 5:13 (NLT) says,
For you have been called to live in freedom, my brothers and sisters. But don’t use your freedom to satisfy your sinful nature. Instead, use your freedom to serve one another in love.
We are told to serve one another in love. Let us remember that it’s not just about us. There are other’s lives that we are intended to touch and to help them see the benefits that a life with Christ offers. Just as we are free in Christ Jesus, we should want others to receive this same grace and mercy in their lives. We do this by showing the love of Christ to them. Be helpers one to another. Let your light shine so that others may see the way through the darkness and get connected with our source of life.
How do we customize our benefits?
There are ways available to us so that we may customize our benefits package. We can pray more intentional fervent prayers that speak God’s Word back to Him. Let us also study God’s Word. We have so many resources available to us today that offer us the ability to study God’s Word and to get a better understanding of God’s will and plan for our individual lives; not just merely reading for reading sake.
We may also customize our benefits package through our obedience; obeying God’s commands and committing to come to Him when we struggle or fail. He is waiting to pick us back up and set our feet on the straight and narrow path. We are to seek to be more like Christ, walking in the image of God.
With benefits like this, ETERNAL LIFE being at the top of the list, who wouldn’t want to accept this Godly appointment? It’s free. Everything is regarded as truth. Just believe!
