(Intentional Prayer)

Pray the Scriptures – My Prayer:

Lord, I come to You with an honest heart. I know Your will. I have studied Your commands. My intellectual mind knows the way to go; but God, sometimes, oftentimes, I get in my own way. God, I give up. I give up the struggle to have things go as I have planned, because, let’s face it, God, it is futile to believe that I will have the final say. I give up trying to control the course of my life and will allow you to have full reign. This goes against what my carnal mind chooses to do, but as I begin a new year, I have come to the conclusion that the fight that I have tried to fight requires that I give up in order to actually win.

Teach me to do Your will, for You are my God. May Your gracious Spirit lead me forward on a firm footing. For the glory of Your name, O Lord, preserve my life. Because of Your faithfulness, bring me out of this distress.

As I allow my heart room to break over the loss of what never was because I was holding on to my plan for me, allow me to receive Your showers of healing that come to rinse away the feelings of defeat, leaving a rainbow of hope in the God who knows what is best for me. For in the end, when I give up my will and my personal desires, I will have Your best, which will be all that I will ever need.

Will it come to pass? God, I don’t know, but I give up trying to make happen what only You can in Your power and strength.

God You are my strong fortress, and You make my way perfect.

Lord, going my own way, even in the small things of life, can lead me astray, down a path of destruction. Show me the way, Your way, how to follow the instructions of Jesus, my Savior. For He provided teachings that I can apply to my life, always, even when I have attempted to do things on my own. For He said, “You can enter God’s Kingdom only through the narrow gate. The highway to hell is broad, and its gate is wide for the many who choose that way. But the gateway to life is very narrow and the road is difficult, and only a few ever find it.”

I want to give up all to stay on that narrow way.

Lord, I pray this day that my desires do not overpower me and cause me to go a way that is contrary to Your Sovereign will for me. I want to follow Your lead, even when it is not easy.

Even when the tears flow from disappointments that come to take my focus away from Your great love for me, I want to hold on to Your strength that carries me through everything, when I give up and let You be the only Lord over my life.

I cannot move forward if I don’t give up all to have what You have prepared for me.

I shake this frustrated feeling, this feeling of failing, yet again, and I look to a new year, another year, to allow You to be the head, as I give up control and follow You.

Thank You Lord for another birthday and another chance to give up so that You have room to show up and receive the glory that is Yours alone. In the midst of the plans that You have for me, let Your glory fill this place, this temple, this body that You have given life to. I give up, for Your glory, this I pray.

Happy Birthday to me! A new year. A new perspective. A renewed heart and an attitude of gratitude for all that You have already done.

This I pray in Jesus’ Name. Not my will but Your will be done. For Your Glory! Amen.

They have no authority over me, but I have authority through Jesus Christ. I am free. I am delivered. I am made whole.
